How I Will Use Data Collection Tools as a Future Educator
- As a teacher, I would use data collection tools, like surveys, to improve my teaching skills and classroom management.
- I would most likely teach English Language Arts at the high school level, so surveys would work well. My students would be old enough to know how to provide good feedback. I would create surveys that would allow my students to give me suggestions - for example, they can critique my teaching technique, as well as the workload I assign weekly. Also, there will be questions regarding what they like and dislike about the course. I will be as open-minded and receptive as possible. Additionally, I would leave plenty of room (on the tangible survey) or students to write out any comments / critiques.
- After collecting this data, I would take the constructive criticism and use it to improve my teaching practice, i.e. work on my areas of weakness.
The Topics I Found Most Interesting from my Classmates’ Blogs
- I profoundly enjoyed reading about my classmates' experiences with the Web Design project. It is interesting to see how all of our experiences were relatively similar. I, too, struggled to understand the inner workings of the Weebly site at first. However, once I became more comfortable with it, I was able to add cool designs that I loved.
- Furthermore, it is interesting to see (read) the consensus of the Twitter platform. From what I have gathered, some of my classmates enjoy posting on Twitter, while others do not. Personally, I feel indifferent about the social media site. Even so, I think it's great that we all share fascinating education-related information (and links) on Twitter. It is very interactive in nature.
The Technology-Related Skill I Would Like to Learn Next and Why
- One technology-related skill that I would like to really focus on next would be spreadsheet skills. Of course, I know the basics of Excel but I still know there is plenty left to learn. I want to know how to best analyze and organize - and even calculate - any data I gather. Especially as a future educator, I would love to enter the teaching field already having a foundation.
- I will achieve this goal by practicing consistently. As the old adage goes, practice makes perfect. I will practice making spreadsheet during my free time and exploring more of the functions on Excel. I feel that if I learn more about the program, then I will be more comfortable using it.
